2016 GLE-Class SUV, Coupe, Plug-in Hybrid - Specs Review
From now on, all SUV's will not be tagged in GL, GLK and ML anymore - but remember, "GL". While the concept and performance are mostly adopted from the E-line.
It might be fair to call them as "transformations", meaning that Mercedes is working to alter comfort-based SUVs into performance SUVs. Emphasizing aerodynamics, handling performance and upgrading powertrains.

Updated Features: What stuff really worth from the 2016 4-door GLE-Class SUV is the fresh redesign and upgraded tech features. Beginning from new head- and tail-lights, interior coloration, new wheels, redesigned trims and freshening bumpers. Now, you should start being curious, right?
In favor of improving handling capability, the SUVs adopt a new system called "Mercedes's Active Curve" that delivers more stable conditions during off-road drivings. The same is true to the steering adjustment which features an innovative variable-ratio steering mode.
More importantly, some key features such as anti-lock braking system, unique airbags, adaptive cruise control, blind spot alert and the like, are included as security equipment. A wider 360-degree corner camera with parking sensors can help drivers significantly.
Available Models: First, most popular, GLE 450 & 63 S Coupe are offering modernistic body styles. The overal length is increased up to five inches, but the height gets a little bit lower. While there is no change on the wheelbase.
Engine Options: With these GLE models buyers get extra powertrain choices. There will be 2 V6 with different specs, 2 V8 alternatives built in high-grade power, 1 diesel engine, and the last is an electric motor to power the new plug-in hybrid.
The V6 engines to feature all standard GLE's. For the GLE 350, Mercedes puts in a lower V6's specs with 302 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. An ampler V6 is available in the GLE 400, rated at 329 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque. Those V6's work together with a 7-speed automatic. Different drive systems are applied, too. With the standard GLE 400 you will have an AWD, but you can also opt for it if you prefer the GLE 350.
As the upcoming 2016 C450 AMG Sport 4MATIC, both new GLE 63 AMG and GLE 63 S AMG are powered by a powerful V8, but differs in power. With the GLE 63, the engine generates about 550 horsepower & 516 pound-feet of torque. Slightly higher, the 63 S is rated at 577 horsepower & 561 pound-feet of torque. Despite both versions to adopt the same 7-speed MCT transmission.
Another engine choice would be a 2.0L 4-cylinder turbo diesel, rated at 201 horsepower & 369 pond-feet of torque, is available in the GLE 300d version. Paired with an AWD as standard as well as a 7-speed transmission.
As we have introduced above, a new plug-in hybrid will be offered as GLE 550e model. The basic V6 seems to feature this GLE plug-in hybrid SUV, supported by a single electric motor. The automaker has stated that the V6 is expected to bring out up to 440 horsepower when combined with a 7-speed automatic. Expected power collaboration to set over 18 miles driving. Trim levels don't stop here, go down.
Special ones in coupe variants, a GLE 450 AMG 4MATIC has the same V6 engine but with a more creative turbocharged touch - pairing with a 9-speed automatic to expect 362 horsepower & 384 pond-feet of torque. In the same line, there will be a GLE 63 S 4MATIC to show up more strength of 577 horsepower with a turbocharged V8 engine.
The GLE-Class receives upgraded interior tech features, new dimensions, fresh shape redesign and includes a diesel engine and a plug-in hybrid |
We've got those details of the engine selections, while still waiting for the EPA's fuel economy rankings.
Pricing and Release: The upcoming 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class SUV's are scheduled to hit dealerships in mid-2015. Then other models come after a few months later. SO far the pricing is still a secret even for the GLE Coupe. Hoping the price tags keep reasonable. Sure, those changes might put the GLE-Class cost higher. And eagerly to see how much the 2016 GLE550e Plug-in Hybrid cost new owners.
